There are few ways errors could make their way into references in your Academic Writer account. In imported references, selecting your RIS file source is important to make sure the file fields go to the corresponding field in the Academic Writer reference form. If there are APA Style errors in the file, they will be imported and appear in your reference.

  • The RIS import page reminds you to proofread your imported references to check for missing information. If any required field is missing, it will be marked with a red exclamation mark indicating that verification is needed.

  • Given names - APA Style uses initials instead of given names.

  • Capitalization - APA Style uses sentence case for some titles and title case for others. If you need to edit a reference, you can use the the Format in Sentence Case or Format in Title Case to correct the errors.

If you notice an error in your references, use the pencil icon to edit the reference. Remember to check for proper nouns and other variations on capitalization.
