Personal communications are cited in the body of your paper only and not included in the reference list.

Use the Personal Communication button in the paper editor toolbar to help you cite personal communication in the text of your paper.

Indicate whether the citation is parenthetical (meaning in parentheses), or narrative (meaning you incorporated the authors’ names into your writing). Complete the fields with as much information as possible, including the source name and date.

Formatted personal communication citations are different from in-text citations for resources included in your reference list. The Academic Writer text editor does not highlight or underline these citations like references cited in your paper that are included in the reference list. Once your citation is created, you can edit the text if needed.
